Caliph standing facing, bearded, placing his right hand on the pommel of his sword and whip hanging from his right elbow; downwards to left, 'Amir al-Mu'minin' ('Commander of the Faithful' in Kufic); downwards to right, 'Khalifat Allah' ('Caliph of Allah' in Kufic).
Rev. Transformed cross standing on three steps; in right field, 'ma'arrat' in Kufic; in left field, 'misrin' in Kufic; around, part of the first Kalima reading 'la ilaha illa Allah wahdahu Muhammad Rasul Allah' ('There is no God but Allah alone, Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah' in Kufic).
